Professor Harrington joined the Board of Directors of OXYVITA in November of 2009. His expertise in research on Hemoglobin enables him to be the best candidate to serve as a liaison between the Scientific and Medical Advisory Board and the Board of Directors. Professor Harrington also serves as the company’s Chief Scientific Officer.
In 2001, John P. Harrington became the founding Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at the State University of New York at New Paltz. He has a Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry from Fordham University and did his postdoctoral work at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He served as chair of the Chemistry Departments at the Universities of Alaska Anchorage and South Alabama. With more than 35 years of research (more than 140 publications and presentations) and departmental management experience, he has focused most of his research efforts on the study of a wide range of oxygen transport proteins with particular interest on human hemoglobins as well as an array of acellular polymeric hemoglobins found in variety of animal organisms. He recently served on the NIHs Basic Science Focus Group on Blood Substitutes to help establish fundamental science issues to be addressed in the continuing effort to advance work in the Blood Substitute arena.
